About Kids in Need of Defense (KIND)
KIND is a nonprofit organization that works to protect unaccompanied and separated children who migrate without a parent or guardian. Founded in 2008 by Microsoft and the actress Angelina Jolie, it arranges free legal representation for these children through a network of pro bono partners, including law firms, corporations, bar associations and law schools. Volunteer attorneys receive training and mentorship, and no prior immigration experience is required. Its holistic model also includes counseling, educational support, medical care and other social services, and the organization advocates for changes to laws and policies affecting children on the move.
