About 7th Judicial District Monroe County Family Court

The Monroe County Family Court is a trial-level court of the New York State Unified Court System, part of the 7th Judicial District. It hears matters involving children and families, including adoption, guardianship, foster care approval and review, juvenile delinquency, family violence, child abuse and neglect, and child support, custody, and visitation. Under New York practice, the Family Court does not grant divorces; that authority rests with the Supreme Court.

The Family Court Clerk's Office is located at the Hall of Justice, 99 Exchange Boulevard, in Rochester, within Monroe County. The court's published information lists a Domestic Violence Intervention Court, a custody and visitation mediation referral arrangement with the Center for Dispute Settlement, on-site childcare for court users, and on-site Spanish interpreters, with other languages available on advance notice. Separately, the Monroe County Law Department states that it can represent petitioners in Family Court proceedings and prosecutes juvenile delinquency and PINS matters, which is distinct from the court itself.
