About Access Justice Brooklyn
Access Justice Brooklyn is a nonprofit legal services organization that began in 1990 as the Brooklyn Bar Association Volunteer Lawyers Project and now operates as an independent 501(c)(3). It pairs free civil legal help with volunteer and pro bono attorneys, giving advice and representation to people who cannot afford a lawyer. It also provides community legal education, including presentations for seniors.
Its listed service areas include advance directives, wills and powers of attorney, Chapter 7 bankruptcy petitions and consumer debt matters, family law matters such as support, custody and uncontested divorce, and foreclosure prevention for homeowners. Assistance is limited to full-time Brooklyn residents with incomes at or below 200% of federal poverty guidelines. Its office is at 203 Jay Street in Brooklyn, and it runs a clinic at the Brooklyn Civil Court.
