About Bronx County Family Court
The Bronx County Family Court is a trial court within the New York State Unified Court System, whose statewide administration falls to the Office of Court Administration. Family Court is a specialized court present in every New York county, and the Bronx branch handles proceedings involving children and families for the borough. Its jurisdiction, as the court system describes it, reaches adoption, guardianship, foster care approval and review, juvenile delinquency, and family offense matters, along with child support, custody and visitation. Divorce is outside its authority, since only the Supreme Court can grant one.
It is a court, not a law practice. The courthouse is at 900 Sheridan Avenue, near 161st Street in the Bronx, and the building houses a help center and a child support service center. The listings also include a Child Protective and Permanency Planning office. On-site interpreters are offered in Spanish and Albanian, with other languages available on request.
