About Broome County Family Court

Broome County Family Court is a trial-level court in Binghamton that belongs to the New York State Unified Court System's Sixth Judicial District. It handles proceedings involving children and families, including adoption, guardianship, foster care approval and review, juvenile delinquency, family violence, child abuse and neglect, termination of parental rights, persons in need of supervision, and matters of child support, custody, and visitation. Divorce actions are filed in Supreme Court rather than in this court.

The court sits at 65 Hawley Street in Binghamton, in the Family and County Court Building, and its Chief Clerk's Office receives filings. Petitions are submitted through the state's Electronic Document Delivery System, and paper filings may be mailed or hand-delivered when electronic filing is not possible. The court also hosts the Broome County Family Treatment Court, a program that uses court-monitored treatment for families affected by alcohol and drug misuse. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., excluding state holidays.
