About Children's Rights Society, Inc.

The Children's Rights Society, Inc. is a nonprofit legal services agency that has worked for children in Orange County, New York since 1996. The Orange County Family Court appoints the agency to represent children in custody, child abuse and neglect, guardianship, juvenile delinquency, PINS, and support proceedings. The agency states that it represents its Family Court clients free of charge, regardless of income. Its staff includes attorneys and social workers who meet with children privately to explain their legal situation, and attorney-for-the-child services are provided by court appointment only.

The agency also runs Project SPEAK, an education law and advocacy program that began in January 2014 with a grant from the Office of Court Administration's Civil Legal Services program. SPEAK serves low-income families in Orange and Sullivan counties whose income is up to 200% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines. The main office is in Goshen, about one mile west of the Orange County Family Court, and SPEAK also has an office at 540 Broadway in Monticello, New York.
