About Coudert Brothers LLP
Coudert Brothers LLP was a New York City law firm founded in 1853 by three brothers, sons of Charles Coudert Sr., and it became known for international legal work. Its Paris office, opened in 1879, is described as the first overseas office opened by a U.S. law firm. In its later years the firm operated roughly 25 to 28 offices across North America, Europe, Asia and Australia, and it represented multinational corporations and foreign governments.
The firm's practice covered commercial law, antitrust, banking and project finance, insolvency, financial restructuring, intellectual property and litigation, with arbitration as a notable area. In 2005 its partners voted to dissolve after merger talks failed, and in September 2006 it filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Its New York office was listed at 1114 Avenue of the Americas, and several of its offices and lawyers moved to other firms.
