About Federal Reserve Bank of New York
The Federal Reserve Bank of New York, commonly called the New York Fed, is one of twelve regional Reserve Banks that, together with the Board of Governors, make up the central bank of the United States. Its head office is at 33 Liberty Street in Manhattan. The Bank executes monetary policy, serves as fiscal agent for the U.S. Treasury, and provides financial services to depository institutions and foreign official institutions. It also supervises and regulates financial institutions in its district.
Its Second District covers New York State, northern New Jersey, Fairfield County in Connecticut, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Other work includes payment system oversight, economic research, and reform of financial market infrastructure, along with the storage of monetary gold for foreign central banks and international agencies. Its stated aim is a sturdier U.S. economy and a steadier financial system that serves all groups in society. Its operations also extend to an East Rutherford, New Jersey operations center.
