About Federal Trade Commission
The Federal Trade Commission is a United States federal government agency, established in 1914 by the Federal Trade Commission Act. Five commissioners are appointed by the President with Senate consent to seven-year terms, and no more than three may belong to the same political party. Its missions are consumer protection and competition, and its headquarters are in Washington, D.C.
The Bureau of Consumer Protection collects complaints on issues such as data security, false advertising, identity theft and Do Not Call violations, brings cases against violators, develops rules and educates the public. The agency also shares complaints with law enforcement agencies worldwide. It has eight regional offices, including one in New York. The Northeast Region is headquartered in New York City at One Bowling Green, Suite 318, and serves New York, New Jersey, New England, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
