About Immigrant Justice Corps

Immigrant Justice Corps (IJC) is a New York nonprofit that recruits, trains and places lawyers and recent college graduates in roles that provide immigration legal assistance. Its stated mission is to expand access to justice for immigrants by recruiting, training and deploying new legal advocates, with the long-term goal of universal representation. The organization was founded in 2014 and traces its origins to Judge Robert Katzmann of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.

IJC runs two fellowships. The Justice Fellowship is for recent law graduates who work on matters such as removal defense and affirmative asylum. The Community Fellowship is for recent college graduates who seek partial accreditation to represent clients before the Department of Homeland Security. Fellows are placed with partnering nonprofit legal services providers and community-based organizations rather than working in an IJC office. IJC states that placements for its 2026 Community Fellowship were expected across New York State, including New York City, Long Island and Upstate New York. The organization reports that more than 500 Fellows have been trained and that it publishes a 93% success rate in completed cases.
