About Lambda Legal
Lambda Legal, formally the Lambda Legal Defense and Education Fund, is a national nonprofit civil rights organization founded in 1973. It works to secure full recognition of the civil rights of lesbians, gay men, bisexuals, transgender people and people living with HIV. Its methods include impact litigation, public education and public policy work. The organization says it does not charge clients for legal representation and relies on supporter contributions.
Its work includes family protection for same-sex couples, such as marriage and parent-child relationships, along with health care access and HIV-related treatment issues. The group also addresses discrimination in employment, housing and other areas, and it operates a Legal Help Desk for people seeking assistance. Its national headquarters is at 120 Wall Street in New York City, and it lists regional offices in Los Angeles, Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas and Washington, D.C.
