About Lawyers For Children
Lawyers For Children, Inc. is a not-for-profit legal corporation created in 1984 to advocate for children in New York City's foster care system. It provides free legal and social work services to children and young adults involved in foster care, youth justice, high-conflict custody and other family court proceedings, and each young client is matched with both an attorney and a social worker. The organization describes its approach as holistic individual advocacy alongside reform of child welfare and youth justice systems.
Beyond individual representation, the organization pursues impact litigation and policy advocacy. Its projects include work on child sexual abuse and exploitation, immigration relief for children in foster care, and representation of young people in juvenile delinquency proceedings before New York City's Family Court. Its New York presence is a Manhattan office at 110 Lafayette Street, and it reports serving children in all five boroughs of New York City.
