About Legal Services of Long Island

Legal Services of Long Island (LSLI), formerly Nassau Suffolk Law Services, is a nonprofit organization that gives free civil legal help to Long Islanders in need. Its personnel include lawyers, paralegals, social workers and other support staff. The organization reports serving more than 15,000 people each year through direct representation, and it also supports community advocates and volunteer attorneys. It has operated since 1966.

Its stated priorities are public benefits programs and housing preservation, including eviction defense and foreclosure prevention. A Public Benefits Unit assists with problems involving programs run by local social services agencies, and the Legal Support Center for Advocates runs training and community education for advocates and clients.
