About Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC)
Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) is a nonprofit community development financial institution that was set up in 1979 in New York City as an intermediary for community development work. It supplies loans, grants and equity financing along with technical and management assistance to local partners and developers, and it draws its funding from banks, corporations, foundations and government agencies. Its program areas include housing, child care and early learning, economic development, education, health, income and wealth building, safety and justice, small business, sports and youth development, and sustainability.
LISC runs local offices in many cities and a rural program. Its New York City office, which dates to 1980, works with nonprofit, community-based organizations to develop affordable housing, commercial enterprises and community facilities.
