About Major League Baseball Players Association
The Major League Baseball Players Association is a labor union that represents professional baseball players in the Major and Minor Leagues. According to its official site, its membership covers players on the 40-man Major League rosters along with roughly 5,500 Minor League players employed by the 30 MLB teams. Collective bargaining is central to its work: it negotiates on players' behalf and enforces and advances their rights and benefits. Its governing body is made up of active players elected by their peers. The union also oversees MLB Players, Inc., which handles group licensing and commercial activities for active players.
Leadership and day-to-day operations are based in Manhattan, where the union's New York office is at 1325 Avenue of the Americas, New York, NY 10019. The organization also maintains offices in Scottsdale, Arizona and Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. A charitable arm, the Players Trust, began in 1996 as a vehicle for players' community efforts and has since expanded its programs.
