About Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center
Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, also called MSK, is a cancer treatment and research institution whose main campus sits at 1275 York Avenue in Manhattan. It took its present form in 1980, when Memorial Hospital for the Treatment of Cancer and Allied Diseases, founded in 1884, combined with the adjacent Sloan-Kettering Institute for Cancer Research, founded in 1945. The center treats adults and children with many types of cancer and offers supportive services such as genetic counseling, pain and symptom management, rehabilitation and integrative medicine. Its Gerstner Sloan Kettering Graduate School offers a Ph.D. in cancer biology, and its physicians lead clinical trials for pediatric and adult cancers.
Outside Manhattan, the institution operates outpatient and specialty sites in New York State, including Commack, Hauppauge and Uniondale on Long Island and West Harrison in Westchester County.
