About Monroe County Hall of Justice
The Monroe County Hall of Justice is a courthouse at 99 Exchange Boulevard in downtown Rochester, New York. It serves as the administrative center for several courts and legal services in the 7th Judicial District. The building houses the district's administrative offices along with the Monroe County Supreme Court, Rochester City Court, Monroe County Family Court and Monroe County Surrogate's Court.
The Supreme Court generally hears matters beyond the authority of lower courts, such as higher-value civil claims, divorce proceedings and felony prosecutions, while the County Court handles criminal matters. Family Court addresses custody, support, adoption and other family and child-related issues. The Surrogate's Court handles adoptions, wills and estates. The Rochester City Court's Civil Division covers small claims, commercial claims and landlord-tenant actions. The building also contains the Seventh Judicial District Law Library on the fifth floor, and the courts generally operate on weekdays.
