About Monroe County Law Department
The Monroe County Law Department is the legal office of Monroe County government, located in Rochester, New York. Under the Monroe County Charter, the County Attorney serves as legal advisor to county government and handles its legal business. The department advises the County Executive, the County Legislature, and county departments, officers, and employees, and it prepares local laws, resolutions, and legislation for the County Legislature.
Its work is organized into divisions. General Legal Services reviews and drafts contracts and legal documents and issues legal opinions. Litigation and Collections represents the county and its officers in litigation, administers the county's self-insurance program, and collects debts owed to the county. Family Court units handle juvenile prosecution and children's services matters, and the department also initiates tax foreclosure proceedings. The office is at 39 West Main Street in the County Office Building, Rochester, NY 14614.
