About Moody's Ratings
Moody's Investors Service is the bond credit rating business of Moody's Corporation, a holding company. It was founded in 1909 by John Moody as a credit rating agency and became a separate company in 2000 after several decades under Dun & Bradstreet. The unit publishes credit ratings and related research on debt obligations issued by companies, financial institutions, governments and structured finance vehicles, and its rating methodologies are made publicly available.
In March 2024 the unit was renamed Moody's Ratings, so the name used in the attorney registry is its former title. Rating decisions are made by analyst committees, and debt borrowers generally pay for the service. The corporate headquarters is at 7 World Trade Center, 250 Greenwich Street, in New York, New York, and the parent company leases offices in the United States and abroad. Because this is a credit rating agency rather than a law firm, no legal practice areas are listed.
