About Nassau County Family Court
Nassau County Family Court is a trial-level court of the New York State Unified Court System, within the 10th Judicial District, which covers the trial courts in Nassau County. It hears matters involving children and families, including adoption, guardianship, foster care approval and review, juvenile delinquency, family violence, child abuse and neglect, and child support, custody, and visitation. Divorce and property division are outside its authority and fall to the New York Supreme Court.
The court's judges decide cases without juries, reviewing documents and testimony before issuing orders. Parties may appear without an attorney and may use court-supported resources such as the clerk's office. The court's main location is the Family & Matrimonial Court Complex at 101 County Seat Drive in Mineola, where Family Court occupies the first and second floors. A separate Family Court building at 1200 Old Country Road in Westbury was scheduled to close permanently effective May 30, 2025.
