About Neighborhood Defender Service of Harlem
Neighborhood Defender Service of Harlem (NDS) is a public defense law office that has served residents of Upper Manhattan since it opened in 1990. It uses a team model in which attorneys, social workers, investigators, administrators and paralegals work together on each client's matter. The office also addresses related civil consequences of criminal cases, such as problems with employment, schooling, housing or immigration, either through direct representation or by referring clients to other providers.
The Harlem office, located at 317 Lenox Avenue in Manhattan, offers criminal defense, pre-arrest services, family defense (including representation in New York City ACS abuse and neglect cases in Family Court), civil defense such as eviction defense in Housing Court, immigration defense, and a youth law program.
