About New York City Campaign Finance Board
The New York City Campaign Finance Board (CFB) is an independent, nonpartisan municipal body that manages the city's public campaign financing system. Its origins lie in a 1988 charter change that voters endorsed. Under its matching funds program, small donations from city residents are multiplied with public money for participating candidates. The program's rules cover candidates for mayor, public advocate, comptroller, borough president and City Council. A five-member board, with five-year terms, makes public-fund and penalty decisions, issues advisory opinions and adopts rules.
Each campaign is reviewed once the election concludes, and its financial disclosures are checked against the rules. The agency also publishes data on money raised and spent in city races through its Follow the Money portal. Its NYC Votes initiative handles voter outreach, a voter guide and a debate program. The agency lists its address as 100 Church Street, 12th Floor, in New York City, and its listed phone number is 212.409.1800.
