About New York City Civilian Complaint Review Board
The Civilian Complaint Review Board is a New York City government agency that is an independent agency and examines allegations of misconduct by NYPD officers. Its jurisdiction covers force, abuse of authority, discourtesy, offensive language, and untruthful statements. Its investigative staff is composed entirely of civilian employees. The Board has 15 members who review completed investigations and make findings. Cases with one or more substantiated allegations go to the police commissioner, who is the only official with authority to impose discipline.
Beyond investigations, the agency offers mediation between civilians and officers, conducts community outreach, and reports policy matters to the police commissioner and the public. Its website, which has materials in eight languages, lets the public file complaints and track their status. The agency's address is 100 Church Street, Manhattan, NY 10017.
