The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, also called NYC Health, is a municipal government agency responsible for public health across the five boroughs of New York City. Its stated mission is to protect and promote the health of all New Yorkers. Its responsibilities also include issuing birth and death certificates, licensing dogs, and inspecting restaurants and child care centers. The New York City Board of Health is part of the department, and its regulations are compiled in the New York City Health Code.
