The New York City Law Department, also called the Office of the Corporation Counsel, is the New York City government department responsible for most of the city's legal affairs. It represents the Mayor, the City Council, city agencies and city officials in civil litigation, and it acts as the presentment agency in juvenile prosecutions in New York Family Court. Its attorneys also draft contracts, leases and municipal bond documents, review state and local legislation, and advise city officials on a wide range of issues, including immigration and environmental policy.

The department's website describes approximately 760 attorneys and 685 support professionals working across its legal and support divisions. The legal divisions cover areas such as administrative law and regulatory litigation, appeals, commercial and real estate litigation, environmental law, labor and employment law, tax and bankruptcy litigation, and workers' compensation. In New York State, the department's main office is at 100 Church Street in Manhattan, with borough offices in Brooklyn, the Bronx, Queens and Staten Island, and an auxiliary office in Kingston.
