About New York State Commission on Judicial Conduct
The New York State Commission on Judicial Conduct is an independent state agency created under the State Constitution. It reviews complaints of ethical misconduct against judges and justices of the State Unified Court System, including state, county, town and village judges, and issues public disciplinary determinations where warranted. Available outcomes include private caution, public admonishment, censure, removal from office, or mandatory retirement, and a disciplined judge may ask the Court of Appeals to review the decision. The Commission has 11 members appointed by the Governor, the Chief Judge and the Legislature, and its staff of attorneys, investigators and administrative personnel is overseen by an Administrator and Counsel.
The agency keeps three offices in New York State: its principal office in New York City at 61 Broadway, plus offices in Albany and Rochester at 400 Andrews Street. Complaints may be submitted online, by email, by fax or by postal mail, and hand-delivered complaints and walk-in visitors are not accepted at its offices.
