The New York State Education Department (NYSED) is a New York State government agency and part of the University of the State of New York. It is headed by the Board of Regents and administered by the Commissioner of Education. Its stated mission is to raise the knowledge, skill, and opportunity of people across New York. The department supervises public schools and standardized testing, oversees higher education and cultural institutions such as museums and libraries, and licenses numerous professions.

The department's work includes producing and administering state tests and Regents Examinations, and it maintains an Office of the Professions that handles licensing and professional discipline. Its headquarters is the State Education Building at 89 Washington Avenue in Albany. The NYSED website also lists a separate Office of the Professional Discipline with a street address in Rochester.
