About New York State Law Reporting Bureau
The New York State Law Reporting Bureau is an agency of the New York State Unified Court System that publishes the decisions of New York's courts in the Official Reports. Its operations are directed by a State Reporter appointed by the Court of Appeals, and the bureau was created under article 14 of the Judiciary Law. The bureau publishes all Court of Appeals decisions and Appellate Division decisions, along with selected trial-level rulings. It also prepares headnotes and edits full-text opinions using its style manual.
The bureau releases materials through two free online services, the New York Slip Opinion Service and the New York Official Reports Service, and it issues bound print volumes such as the New York Reports and Appellate Division Reports. Its role excludes legal counsel, legal research, and lawyer discipline. Its only listed New York office is at 17 Lodge Street in Albany, where it can be reached by telephone at (518) 453-6900.
