About New York State Office for People With Developmental Disabilities
The New York State Office for People With Developmental Disabilities is a state agency based at 44 Holland Avenue in Albany. It coordinates services for New Yorkers with developmental disabilities, such as intellectual disabilities, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome and autism spectrum disorders. Some supports are delivered by the agency itself, while many others run through roughly 450 nonprofit provider agencies. The agency was created in 1978 as the Office of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities and took its current name in 2010.
Most of its services are funded through Medicaid, and they include residential, day, clinical and habilitation supports. The agency also runs state-funded family support and employment services, such as job coaching and vocational training. Its operations extend beyond Albany: its contact listings include regional offices in Central New York, including Rome and Syracuse, and offices serving New York City boroughs such as Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, Manhattan and Staten Island.
