About New York State Office of Addiction Services and Supports
The New York State Office of Addiction Services and Supports (OASAS) is a state government agency and the designated lead for addressing overdose, substance use disorders and problem gambling. It funds, regulates and supports programs ranging from school-based prevention to community harm reduction and state-run treatment. The agency certifies and monitors a network of approximately 1,700 prevention, treatment and recovery providers, and it administers professional credentialing for addiction counselors and prevention specialists. A free, 24/7 HOPEline provides confidential help by phone or text.
The agency directly operates 12 Addiction Treatment Centers that provide inpatient and residential care, and it oversees community-based programs run by nonprofit agencies and hospitals. Its headquarters is in Albany at 1450 Western Avenue, and it maintains a New York City office at 501 7th Avenue along with regional offices across the state. The office traces its origins to 1992, when earlier state divisions were combined, and it was renamed in 2019.
