About New York State Office of General Services

The New York State Office of General Services (OGS) is a state government agency, not a law firm. It was established in 1960 to provide support services for the operations of state government. Its mandate covers managing and leasing state real property, designing and building facilities, and contracting for goods, services and technology. The agency serves state departments, the Legislature, the Judiciary, local governments, eligible nonprofits, school districts and public authorities.

OGS's work includes architectural, engineering and construction management for buildings statewide, building operations and maintenance for 49 major office complexes, and administration of roughly 1,500 centralized procurement contracts used by state agencies and municipal governments. It also runs the Business Services Center, which processes human resource and finance transactions common across agencies, and it oversees the distribution of federal surplus property. Its headquarters is on the 36th floor of the Corning Tower at the Empire State Plaza in Albany. Its listed New York State facilities include offices in Albany, Binghamton and Schenectady, a distribution site in Green Island, and a resiliency division office in New York City.
