About New York State Offices of the Inspector General
The Offices of the Inspector General are a New York State government body. Three offices operate under appointments held by one Inspector General: the New York State Inspector General, which receives and investigates complaints about corruption, fraud, criminal activity, conflicts of interest and abuse in state government, including state-funded infrastructure work; the Welfare Inspector General, which looks into fraud involving public assistance and social services programs; and the Workers' Compensation Fraud Inspector General, which investigates violations of the rules for the workers' compensation system.
The office's staff includes investigators, attorneys and forensic specialists. Its work includes audits, systemic reviews, procurement and contract monitoring, and recommendations for reform to state agency programs. It also holds outreach sessions and trainings for state agencies, insurers and other organizations. The headquarters is at Empire State Plaza in Albany, and the offices also have locations in Buffalo, Hauppauge, New York City, Suffern and Syracuse.
