About New York State School Boards Association
The New York State School Boards Association is a membership organization that speaks for more than 700 local boards of education across the state. It advocates before state lawmakers and policymakers in Albany, provides board member training and conferences, offers policy development resources, and publishes guides such as the education law reference School Law. Its Legal Services team provides school law consultations on subjects including open meetings, student discipline, and employee discipline matters.
Founded in 1896 in Utica, the association has its headquarters in Latham, where its office is listed at Century Hill Drive. It is registered as a lobbyist with New York's Public Integrity Commission, and its public school members fund it through dues. It also maintains a database of section 3020-a disciplinary decisions for districts and their attorneys. The organization is a nonprofit association rather than a law firm; the sources reviewed list no offices elsewhere in New York State.
