About NYC Commission on Human Rights
The NYC Commission on Human Rights is a New York City government agency that enforces the City's Human Rights Law, found in Title 8 of the Administrative Code. Its responsibilities include taking in, investigating and prosecuting discrimination complaints, along with public education and efforts to improve community relations. The Law bars discrimination in employment, housing and public accommodations on grounds that include race, disability, sexual orientation and immigration status.
Members of the public and attorneys can file complaints; the agency states that its services are free of charge, and attorneys may submit verified complaints on a client's behalf under its Rules of Practice. Complaints can also be reported online. The agency publishes settlement highlights, decisions and orders, and a legal library of amendments, enforcement guidance and rules. In New York State, its main office is at 22 Reade Street in Manhattan.
