About NYC Department of Finance
The New York City Department of Finance (DOF) is the revenue service, taxation agency and recorder of deeds for the government of New York City. According to the city's Green Book listing, it collects over $45 billion in revenue and values more than one million properties. Its duties include recording property-related documents, administering exemption and abatement programs, adjudicating and collecting parking tickets, and maintaining the city's treasury. Its Sheriff's Office functions as the municipality's principal civil enforcement body.
The agency's Legal Affairs Division serves as its in-house legal department and handles real property taxes and exemptions, business income and excise taxes, collections, parking violations, and FOIL matters. In New York City, DOF business centers accept payments, hold parking ticket hearings and receive deeds for recording, with listed locations in Manhattan and the Bronx. The city's 311 listing also references assistance centers in Queens.
