About Practising Law Institute
Practising Law Institute (PLI) is a nonprofit continuing legal education organization chartered by the Regents of the University of the State of New York. Founded in 1933 by Harold P. Seligson, it provides accredited courses for lawyers and allied professionals, taught by more than 4,000 volunteer faculty drawn from the bench, the bar, and corporate counsel. It also publishes treatises, course handbooks, and journals through its PLI PLUS platform.
Its practice-area catalog covers more than 30 areas, delivered live, on demand, by webcast, and as downloadable audio and video, with many programs approved for mandatory continuing legal education credit in most states. The organization also runs pro bono memberships and scholarships. Its headquarters is at 1177 Avenue of the Americas in New York City, and it maintains an office and conference center in San Francisco.
