About Social Security Administration, Office of Hearings Operations (OHO)
The Office of Hearings Operations (OHO) is a component of the U.S. Social Security Administration, the federal agency that runs Social Security benefit programs. Its administrative law judges hold hearings and issue decisions on appealed determinations involving retirement, survivors, disability insurance, and Supplemental Security Income benefits. A separate appellate component, the Appeals Council, reviews those decisions. Before adopting its current name, the unit operated as the Office of Disability Adjudication and Review.
In New York State, the registry cities match two of the hearing offices SSA lists for the state: Syracuse, with a hearing office at 300 South State Street, and New York City, with a hearing office at 26 Federal Plaza. These addresses come from a third-party directory of Social Security offices, not from the agency's own site. A November 2025 letter from the agency announced a hub structure to replace the earlier regional organization of hearing offices.
