About Supreme Court, New York County
Supreme Court, New York County, is a trial-level court in Manhattan within the New York State Unified Court System. Its Civil Branch decides civil matters, meaning cases that do not involve criminal offenses, and it is empowered to decide all such matters, although the New York City Civil Court handles civil claims where no more than $50,000 is at stake. A separate Criminal Term hears felony prosecutions and divorce-related proceedings are also heard in the Supreme Court.
The court's website provides information on case processing, e-filing, alternative dispute resolution, juror information, guardianship matters, foreclosure auction sales and administrative orders. Its main facility is the New York County Courthouse at 60 Centre Street in Manhattan, which also houses many courtrooms and the office of the County Clerk of New York County. Some justices' chambers and courtrooms are located at 80 Centre Street, 111 Centre Street and 71 Thomas Street, and the Criminal Term operates from 100 Centre Street.
