About The Children's Law Center

The Children's Law Center (CLC) is a not-for-profit legal organization that represents children in New York City Family Court. Its attorneys, working with social workers, represent young clients in custody, visitation, domestic violence, guardianship, parentage and related child protective matters, and its core program extends to clients up to 21 years of age. Founded in 1997, the organization reports having handled more than 1,000 appeals, and it also engages in policy advocacy, training of legal professionals and continuing legal education.

Its Youth Guardianship Project assists young migrants under 21 who have been abused or abandoned in seeking Special Immigrant Juvenile Status, and represents them in related guardianship proceedings in Family Court. The organization reports representing more than 8,000 children and youth in 2025 in Family Courts across New York City. In New York State, it has offices in the Bronx, Brooklyn, Forest Hills (Queens) and Staten Island, which its website describes as located close to the courts it serves.
