About The Lawyering Project
The Lawyering Project is a nonprofit legal advocacy organization founded in 2017 and recognized as a 501(c)(3) organization. It combines impact litigation with policy work to promote reproductive health, rights and justice across the United States, and it aims to eliminate laws that restrict abortion access and harm people's reproductive decisions.
The organization runs three legal programs. Its Litigation Program uses the courts to remove barriers to reproductive health services. Its Access & Innovation Program gives legal advice and technical assistance to healthcare providers, researchers and abortion funds, and its General Counsel Program, launched in 2023, offers ongoing legal support to abortion funds and practical support groups. Its Pro Bono Initiatives Program operates the Abortion Defense Network, which matches people facing liability for abortion-related care with lawyers. Named clients include health care providers, abortion funds, governmental entities, scientific researchers, religious congregations and people seeking abortion care. A public listing gives a Brooklyn, New York address, while the organization describes its staff as all-remote and possibly based anywhere in the United States.
