About Touro University
Touro University is a private institution with Jewish roots, headquartered in New York City. Its founder, Bernard Lander, set out to combine career-oriented training with Jewish religious study. The college received its charter from the New York Board of Regents in 1970 and opened in 1971. In 2022 the Board amended that charter to grant university status. Touro now operates as part of the broader Touro University System, which has campuses beyond New York State.
The university offers programs in business, law, technology, social work, medicine, physical therapy, nursing, pharmacy and podiatry. Touro Law Center, founded in 1980, is one of its schools. Its main campus is at 3 Times Square in Manhattan, and it also has a Harlem campus at 230 West 125th Street and a Middletown campus. Its New York School of Career and Applied Studies reports campuses in Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens. The university says it serves nearly 19,000 students each year.
