About U.S. Customs and Border Protection

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is an agency within the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. It describes itself as combining customs, immigration, border security, and agricultural protection into one coordinated approach to border management, and it reports more than 69,000 employees. Its stated mission is to protect the American people, safeguard the nation's borders, and support economic prosperity, with priorities that include countering terrorism, combating transnational crime, facilitating lawful trade and travel, and protecting revenue.

CBP's border security work is carried out at ports of entry by Office of Field Operations officers and Air and Marine Operations agents, and between ports by Border Patrol agents. Public services include Trusted Traveler Programs, traveler biometrics, a searchable database of customs rulings, and the CBP Information Center for questions, complaints and tips. In New York State, CBP has a New York Field Office at One World Trade Center in Manhattan and a Buffalo Field Office that covers 16 ports of entry across most of the state. The Buffalo Sector headquarters is located in Grand Island.
