The United States Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of New York is a federal office within the U.S. Department of Justice that prosecutes federal crimes and handles civil litigation for the United States. Its district covers Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island, and the Long Island counties of Nassau and Suffolk, which together include more than eight million people. Its Criminal Division prosecutes cases involving national security, terrorism, cybercrime, money laundering, securities and health care fraud, public corruption, and narcotics and gun trafficking. Its Civil Division represents the government in affirmative and defensive litigation, including civil rights, consumer protection, and health care fraud matters.

The office operates from a main office at 271 Cadman Plaza East in Brooklyn and a branch office at 610 Federal Plaza in Central Islip. Its website reports that more than 150 Assistant U.S. Attorneys and 125 professional staff work in the Brooklyn and Central Islip offices. The district itself was established on February 25, 1865.
