About United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit
The United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit is a federal appellate court, one of thirteen U.S. courts of appeals, established in 1891. It hears appeals from federal district courts in Connecticut, New York, and Vermont, and its rulings may be taken to the Supreme Court of the United States. Its judgeships now number thirteen, and three judges sit on each case panel, with the full court sitting en banc in some appeals.
Its clerk's office and courtroom are located in the Thurgood Marshall United States Courthouse at 40 Foley Square in Lower Manhattan, New York City. The court also runs a mediation program for appeals, publishes its decisions as PDF files, and provides information on attorney admissions and an attorney admissions database. Its site also includes pages on court calendars, electronic case filing, and judicial conduct.
