About United States District Court Eastern District of New York
The United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York is a federal trial court. Its stated mission is to support, defend and preserve the Constitution of the United States by providing an impartial forum for the just resolution of disputes. The district covers the counties of Kings, Nassau, Queens, Richmond and Suffolk, and it shares concurrent jurisdiction over certain nearby waters with the Southern District of New York. The court's website provides information about judges, local rules, forms, opinions, calendars, and electronic filing resources, along with notices to the bar.
The court holds proceedings at two courthouses in New York State: the main courthouse at 225 Cadman Plaza East in Brooklyn, and the Long Island Courthouse at 100 Federal Plaza in Central Islip, Suffolk County, which serves as the divisional office. Attorney admissions are handled through the clerk's offices in Brooklyn and Central Islip. The United States Attorney's Office for the Eastern District represents the United States in litigation before the court, but it is a separate government office.
