About United Way of New York City
United Way of New York City (UWNYC) is a nonprofit organization, not a law firm or legal services provider. It states that its purpose is to help low-income New Yorkers cover everyday costs and reach self-sufficiency, and it describes its mission as uniting community power with citywide possibility. It works with government, business, foundations, nonprofits and community partners, and it reports supporting about 600 community-based organizations. It is one of the community-based United Ways in the United Way Worldwide network.
Its programs focus on education, income and health. They include partnerships that support parents as their children's first teachers, curriculum and teacher training, and a citywide network of emergency food providers. A free search tool called CONNECT helps New Yorkers find reduced-cost services such as medical care, food and housing. The organization lists its headquarters at 205 East 42nd Street in New York, NY 10017. The sources reviewed do not name any other New York State offices.
