About UnLocal, Inc.
UnLocal, Inc. is a nonprofit based in Manhattan that offers immigration legal help and community education to immigrants in New York City. It was first envisioned in 2008 as an online guide to New York social services for immigrants. The group later became a direct legal services provider after securing 501(c)(3) status in 2011 with help from the CUNY School of Law's incubator program. It describes its aim as tackling structural inequities that affect immigrant communities.
Its legal team represents immigrant clients across New York State in immigration court, federal district and appellate courts, civil and family courts, and USCIS filings and hearings. Listed programs include Post Order Defense, the Pro Se Plus Project, and the Queer Immigrant Justice Project. A separate Education and Outreach unit prepares presentations and materials on immigrant rights and changing policies. The office is at 45 West 29th Street in Manhattan, and the organization lists work in New York City, Nassau, Suffolk and Westchester counties.
